Watreso (Ash), March 17, GNA - The Methodist Church of Ghana is not only interested in the spiritual progress of the people but their socio-economic development as well, the Right Reverend Benjamin K. Asare, the Bishop of the Obuasi diocese of the Church, has said.

"The church does not preach the gospel only but is also committed to meeting the social needs of the people, especially health and education", Bishop Asare stressed.

He was speaking at a ceremony at Watreso in the Amansie West district on Tuesday during which the Church presented an ambulance donated by the United Methodist Church of America (Shalom Communities) to the Watreso clinic.

The Rt. Rev. Asare charged the clinic authorities to use the ambulance as a mobile clinic to help enhance health delivery and also for the number of villages in the area to benefit from the donation. The District Chief Executive, Mr Ben Kwakye-Adeefe, who expressed appreciation to the Church, advised pregnant women to always seek for medical advice instead of resorting to herbal treatment.

He appealed to the people to take the on-going voters' registration exercise seriously and assured them that the government was concerned about their plight.

The DCE announced that the area would soon be provided with solar energy as a short-term measure to solve electricity problem facing the people.

Nana Adomako, the District Director of Health Services said a qualified nurse had been posted to assist in the management of the clinic.

He assured the church that proper maintenance of the ambulance would be the priority of the authorities of the health administration.

In another development, the Obuasi diocese of the church had donated food items including four bags of rice, a bag each of sugar and powdered milk and assorted drugs to the Buruli Ulcer patients at Agroyesum Catholic Hospital.
