Students asked not to regard mock exams as JSS finality

Saltpond (C/R), March 28, GNA - The Mfantseman District Directorate of Education has reminded Junior Secondary School (JSS) final year students that writing mock examination does not mark the end of their education. The Directorate cautioned that any student who misconducts himself or herself after a mock examination could be sanctioned and even be prevented from writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Officers of the directorate gave the warning at a weekly staff meeting when Mr Anthony Benson, the officer in charge of examinations announced that reports reaching him from the circuits indicated that class attendance had reduced drastically after the students wrote their mock examinations in January.

Mr Benson cited Mankessim Catholic JSS where only 37 out of 69 final students were present when the circuit officer visited the school. The meeting urged parents to take the warning seriously and advise their wards accordingly.

It came to light at the meeting that some teachers could not use the new syllabuses effectively because they themselves were not conversant with some of the topics.

The officers have resolved to organise in-service training for the teachers to up-grade their knowledge. They however, appealed to the Ghana Education Service to reintroduce appointment of subject organisers to the districts to help the teachers.
