MP for Ashaiman Constituency, Ernest Henry Norgbey
The Member of Parliament for Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region, Ernest Henry Norgbey has thrown his weight behind the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly over its planned decongestion exercise this month.
“I fully endorse the Assembly’s decision to rid Ashaiman of all unauthorized structures because you know very well that there is so much traffic congestion in the municipality.”
He added: “I have said it time and again that the Assembly must clear all the hawkers from the streets to ensure that there is free flow of vehicular movement.”
The Municipal Chief Executive of Ashaiman Mr. Albert Boakye Okyere few weeks ago indicated in an interview with the press that the Assembly will by the end of July embark on decongestion exercise because Ashaiman is choked.
Traffic situation in the municipality is major source of worry to residents especially workers.
Speaking to the press Ernest Henry Norgbey who expressed worry about the traffic situation in Ashaiman assured the Assembly of his maximum support in any decision that will uplift the image of the municipality.
He said although he had been elected to serve the interest of the people who voted for him, he will not condone wrongdoings.
“My people voted for me to serve them but I must say that I will not condone wrongdoing,” he stated.
The Ashaiman legislator however, made a passionate appeal to the Assembly to compensate those who will be affected by the exercise especially those who have lived there for several years.
Hon. Ernest Norgbey also condemned residents who sweep their homes and go to the streets and dump the refuse there.
He called on such indiscipline residents to desist from such practice saying it was not the best.
As part of his effort to help in job creation and also to tackle sanitation problems in Ashaiman, Hon. Ernest Norgbey said he had been in touch with a Netherland based company that is into waste processing and will soon conclude discussions with them to enable them come and establish a factory in Ashaiman to process waste in energy.
