NCCE organises clean-up

Nkoranza (B/A) May 4, GNA - The Nkoranza District Secretariat of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in conjunction with the District Assembly on Wednesday mobilised schoolchildren and the people to undertake a massive clean-up exercise in Nkoranza to herald the launch of the fourth constitutional week celebration in Brong Ahafo. The exercise attracted market women, tailors and dressmakers, beauticians, the association of garages, ASTA and Classic FM Radio fan clubs, members of the Nkoranza Tripoli Association, shoeshine boys and workers of the Nkoranza lumber company limited.

They swept the main streets and desilted gutters, while students of Effa Junior Secondary School and St. Theresa's JSS cleared the weeds around St. Theresa's hospital.

Mr Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, District Chief Executive, who took part in the exercise, commended the participants for their communal labour spirit and concern for the health of the people.

He urged them to carry out such programmes periodically to promote good sanitation in the town.

He advised the people to use such spirit to unite and co-operate to enhance the development of the district.

Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi said Nkoranza district was last year adjudged the best district in environmental sanitation and appealed to communities to keep their surroundings clean at all times to maintain the record.

Mr. Sammy Asumah, NCCE district director, expressed gratitude to the authorities of the two schools as well as the students for their participation in the constitution week programme.

Mr. Daniel Agyarko, district environmental health division officer, paid special tribute to Mr. Kwaku Adu-Poku, managing director of Nkoranza lumber company limited for donating six shovels, valued at more than 200,000 cedis to the District Assembly for sanitation activities. He urged other citizens to emulate Mr. Adu-Poku to enhance the development of the area.

The exercise also attracted top administrative officers including the district coordinating director, Mr. Anaclatens Fakoo Dorcie, the district finance officer, Mr Joseph Ababio-Basoah, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Mr. Adjei Yeboah and the headmaster of Nkoranza Secondary/Technical School, Mr. Joseph Kwaku Adjei, who also offered 50,000 cedis towards feeding the participants.

The four Assembly Members in Nkoranza, Miss Sarah Oforiwaah, Mr Yaw Osei, Mr Yaw Owusu and Mr Kwabena Osei, mobilised their people to participate in the exercise.

Meanwhile, Mr. Douglas Marfo, Nkoranza district secretary of ASTA FM Radio Fun Club, has called on the District Assembly to provide litter containers at vantage areas in the town to help prevent the littering of the streets.
