Some aggrieved traders at the Asafo market in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region are protesting against the officials of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) for increasing charges.

They accused the authorities of refusing to deal with stench refuse that has engulfed the market but have resorted to exorbitant charges.

They bemoaned the lack of social amenities such as toilets and bathrooms.

Clad in their red attire, they blasted the city authorities for failing to put measures in place to curb perennial flooding in the market.

They are infuriated over the lack of toilet facilities and a dump site as well as the perennial flooding in the market complaining that they are losing their customers due to the poor nature of the market.

‘The daily new charges have astronomically increased from 50Gp to GHC1.00, meanwhile there is no toilet facilities in the market, look at the number of traders here, where do you expect us to ease ourselves when nature calls?. We will not pay the new charges until they fix the market,’ the irate traders warned.
