Fishermen and women who fall under the jurisdiction of the Edina Traditional Area and are fond of flouting the custom against Tuesday fishing have been given their “last warning” by the Traditional Authority.
Fisherfolks who also peddle their catch at the “sacred Benya Lagoon with impunity” on Tuesdays have also been warned to desist from the act, mynewsgh.com’s Asana Gordon reported from Elmina.
Nana Kwadwo Conduah VI, Paramount Chief of the Edina Traditional Area observed that in recent times some people within Traditional Area have been violating very important customs of Elmina in various forms without sanctions.
The Omanhene made this statement when he launched 2018 Bakatue festival and the 20th anniversary of his enstoolment as Omanhene of Edina Traditional Area.
Nana Conduah VI said the era of impunity was over and warned those caught violating the Tuesday fishing custom will be drastically sanctioned; stressing to the chiefs and people gathered that no amount of plea for the recalcitrant offenders will be entertained by the Traditional authority.
Nana Conduah VI thanked the people of Elmina for promoting peaceful coexistence among themselves within the Traditional Area and it’s environs.
He also asked the chiefs of the area to help resolve all lingering chieftaincy troubles in their areas of jurisdiction.
“At the moment we are in one Traditional Area where chieftaincy troubles are minimal and it’s my desire that we remain dispute-free in our dear Traditional Area”, Nana Conduah stated.
Nana Conduah VI, who has for the past years been an ambassador for “buy made-in-Ghana; use made-in-Ghana” used the opportunity to call on all Ghanaians to reduce dependency on imported goods.
On jobs, Nana Kodua appealed to all and Sundry to “exercise some patience” for the government to find solution to unemployment canker in the country while we patronize Ghana-made products to boost growth.
