Thousands of civil servants in the Jomoro District of the Western Region received awards in various forms as part of this year's May Day celebrations.

The gesture, which is the brain child of the Member of Parlianment (MP), for the area, Mr. Paul Essien, sought to recognize the efforts and contributions made by organized labour towards the development of the District.

Dubbed, The 2017 Unprecedented Hardworking Personality Awards, it was on the global theme, Sustainable Development Goals and Decent Work: The Role of the Social Partner".

The Jomoro Education office and the Health Directorate received three computers each with the District Magistrate Court scooping one motorbike and an air condition.

Thirty graduated hairdressers received a dryer each and thirty seamstresses also received 30 sewing machines to start their businesses.

All haedmasters and heads at the health centers including heads of all civil servants and security services including traditional rulers received a fowl each.

Other awardees received awards ranging from flat screen Television sets, with inbuilt decoder and dish, fridges, laptops, iPads and computers.

The best civil servant award went to the District Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Addressing the workers Mr. Essien said it was a reminder to all civil servants in the District that they were being monitored in whatever they were doing.

He appealed to them to eschew all forms of occupational laxity and work with diligence to maximise output to move the area forward.

Mr. Essien told the workers that government would recognize their hardwork and reward their efforts.

He pledged to push the development agenda of the Jomoro area forward by working closely with the labour unions.
