The JBA foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization which seeks to better the lives of women and children in the Ghanaian society, went on a successful quest to empower widows in Damango in the Northern Region of Ghana, to endow them with skills in various vocations that could help them cater for themselves and families.
The workshop which was recently held at Damango in the Northern part of Ghana focused on training both young and older widows who struggle to survive and make ends meet in the absence of their husbands. They were trained in making bar and powdered soap for sale.
The widows whole-heartedly seized the opportunity and fully committed themselves to this training program seeing it as an opportunity to help enhance their lives.
The C.E.O of the JBA foundation, Evang. Alberta Bentum – Ahiadekey, stated that the organization amidst the many communities in Ghana chose Damango because of how much these widows struggled to even provide food for themselves and their children. Especially since they did not have vocation or skill, apart from farming.
In her words, “if women who are still living with their husbands are struggling to survive, then how much more will the unfortunate ones whose husbands are dead cope with the task of catering for their families. Indeed, these widows really need our support.”
Evang. Alberta assured that the foundation will go to all lengths possible to train and empower the less privileged women and children in the society because matters concerning the well-being and progress of such persons will always remain paramount to the heart of the JBA foundation.
The C.E.O, also disclosed that the organization seeks not only to help train these widows and establish them in the soap making business but also to help them market their products by transporting the goods to the cities for sale.
The widows expressed their joy and also mentioned how the training encouraged them to rebuild their lives despite the fact that they had lost hope due their seemingly helpless situation. Seeing how hard it was for their mothers to provide them with food, their children had also given up on going school and pursuing any of their dreams
The women expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the JBA foundation, and its leadership for coming to their aid, and promised to endeavour to use these acquired skills to make their lives and those of their families and the society better.
The District Chief Executive for West Gonja in the Northern region, Hon Saeed Muhazu Jibri commended the JBA foundation for bringing hope to the widows and also encouraged the widows to attach seriousness to their newly acquired skill.
He also pledged to support the JBA foundation in their quest to support and better the lives of these widows and their children.
