A non-governmental organization (NGO), THF Ghana Foundation has organized a free eye screening and sensitization programme for residents of Funko, in the Western region.
The exercise, dubbed “ THFGlauCare Campaign”, was a collaboration between THF Ghana Foundation and Uretope Optical and Vision Center in Takoradi, as part of events to climax their half year long Glaucoma sensitization Campaign.
The free eye screening saw a large turnout from indigenes as well as those from neighboring towns, with majority of the people also benefiting from the house to house Glaucoma sensitization programme.
According to the Executive Secretary of the foundation, Mr. Isaac Asah Adjei, there are thousands of Ghanaians who suffer from various eye conditions, but could not afford the cost of medical care to correct the defects, and therefore saw it necessary to meet them at their needs. He further asked for support from both the government and private sector to help reduce the growing numbers.
Dr. Boateng of Uretope Optical and Vision Centre urged the people to take very good care of their eating habits and cultivate the habit of visiting the hospital regularly for a frequent comprehensive eye screening.
Nana Kow Nkani IV of the community thanked the NGO and the medical team for helping his people, and appealed for more of such programmes in the community.
THF Ghana Foundation is an NGO that seeks to create awareness and provide basic health care needs particularly to the deprived communities with women and children as their primary target.
