Hon Gilbert Ken Asmah, Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality has reaffirmed the NPP Government's commitment to providing high-quality, care and education within an inclusive and enabling environment to accelerate the educational fortunes in Ghana.
“Our objectives are, therefore, to maximise the percentage of Ghanaian children within the basic level to have access to good-quality education, it is important to note that giving them a firm foundation at this level would go a long way to boost their confidence level at the secondary and tertiary levels of education.
The Tarkwa-Nsuaem MCE noted that significant strides have been made in the transformation of the education system of which the elementary level was of no exception, noting that the past 18 months in have seen a number of major accomplishments under our watch as a government through the resilient Educational System Transformation Programmes, which has been rolled out.
Hon Gilbert Asmah was addressing a gathering during the grand finale of the 3rd edition Quiz competition among Junior High Schools within the Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley Municipalities at the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, (TNMA) Assembly hall on Saturday, June 16, 2018.
The Tarkwa-Nsuaem MCE mentioned, that government also recognises the need to intervene in the lives of children at the basic level by supporting laudable initiatives such as periodic quizzes, debates and other programmes, even before they enter the second cycle education system so as to boost their confidence level, he noted.
For his part, Mamudu Adamu, Coordinator of Bram's Educational Aid Network, observed that the organization comprised of Teachers from various schools and few others within the two Municipalities who voluntarily organize educational programmes such as quiz to support the students improve their academic performances as they participate or listen to the proceedings.
He hinted that the intention of the programme is not to grade schools but to help deepen the academic exercise of our children, According to him, the response and endorsement by the parents, teachers and the public is very positive and promising. He further appealed to philanthropist and cooperate entities to sponsor their weekly quiz programme on Medeama 92.9 FM every Saturday to help sustain the programme, he said.
The participating Schools were University of Mines basic school, Peace royal school, Dew of life Academy and Jesus mbofranyanko preparatory schools respectively. In attendance were the Alex K Duah, Municipal Education Director, Stephen Kwaku Akrowey, Headmaster of Hooper basic school and parents.
