Ho, Oct. 13, GNA- Mr. Mawutor Goh, Ho Municipal Chief Executive on Wednesday called for the promotion and implementation of all legal and institutional frameworks that facilitated women empowerment. Mr. Goh, who made the call at the launch of the Volta Region Women's Manifesto in Ho, advocated the change in social and cultural mindsets that undermined the holistic development of women.

He said women empowerment should be given the necessary attention to promote the national development agenda.

Mr Benjamin K. Kornu, a Human Resource Director at the Regional Coordinating Council, expressed optimism that the Manifesto would make women assertive to combat the problems that affected them.

Mrs Augustina Akumenyi, Deputy Chairman of the National Commission on Civic Education said good governance and democracy would be threatened and lopsided if gender issues were left in the doldrums.

Mrs Cate Agla (Attention Ed.name is correct) South Tongu District Chief Executive said even although no law frowned on the ability of women to excel, some cultural and traditional norms continue to make them submissive and servitude to their male counterparts.

"These roles ascribed to the womenfolk's were no longer consistent with societal norms and values," she said.

Mr Ferdinand K Anku, the Regional Director of the NCCE said the clarion call on society was to recognise the rights of women and to grant them the opportunity to play their part in governance.
