Accra, Oct. 31, GNA - The Most Reverend Professor Emeritus Kwesi A. Dickson, Former President of All African Council of Churches, on Sunday noted that Ghanaians have a sacred responsibility to go to the polls to elect people who could create a future for the country. "You have to make sure that what is good comes to the nation through your votes."
Professor Dickson was speaking at a thanksgiving service in Accra to climax the 40th anniversary celebration of the Ghana Police Church (GPC), which was on the theme: "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
He said Ghana had a lot to show to the world in general and Africa in particular by using the polls to show how a country should be governed properly.
He urged all to take the forthcoming polls seriously and strive to make it peaceful for now and for generations yet unborn. Prof. Dickson, who is a Former President of the Methodist Conference, said it was the duty of Ghanaians to vote for people, who would give the country a future that would benefit generations. Mr Edwin Barnes, Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, who stood in for the Sector Minister, Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, said the theme was crucial for testing the young democracy especially in the coming elections.
He urged Ghanaians to pray for the security services, who would be playing an important role before, during and after the elections. The service, which was attended by the top brass of the Ghana Police Service, including Nana Owusu-Nsiah, Inspector General of Police, Mr Patrick Acheampong, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Operations, and Mrs Elizabeth Mills-Robertson, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Administration, was interspersed with music from the Police Band. Awards were given to deserving members including Mr Sam Akurang-Wiafe, Public Relations Officer of the Council of State, who has single-handedly been editing the Church's bulletin since its inception. Chief Superintendent Benjamin Quansah, Chaplain-General of the GPC expressed gratitude to all who made the anniversary celebration a success.
Mrs Mills Robertson and Mrs Owusu-Nsiah, wife of the IGP, later cut the anniversary cake.
