For a cocoa producing district, it is quite unfortunate to find the entire Kindergarten and most of the primary school pupils of Kwabena Dwomo Krom in the Dormaa West District of the Brong Ahafo region not having desks to sit on in their various classrooms.

Pupils, during lessons, have no option than to sit on bare, dusty concrete floors to write.

The school buildings housing the KG and lower primary classes are made of short, concrete walls which Mr. Goder Kwadwo, a unit committee chairman of Kwabena Dwomo Krom revealed were structures they began putting up themselves but could not get the needed funds to continue.

It is not just the students who have been affected by the situation as teachers have also resorted to a makeshift veranda as their staff common room. Speaking to some of the teachers, they lamented about how their deplorable condition is affecting teaching and learning.

Enquiries about the school's enrollment on the National School Feeding Program, an elder from the community said, "We don't have the school feeding now, the assembly took us off the program after the children experienced some food poisoning some time ago".

When the news team visited the KG, there were no teachers with the children under the death trap structure.

Investigations revealed that, the only female teacher had miscarried a pregnancy and had to be rushed to a hospital in Dormaa Ahenkro and had not returned to her post as at ATV’s visit to Kwabena Dwomo Krom.

Efforts to reach the Dormaa West Education Directorate about the engulfed challenges proved futile.
