The Qatar Ambassador to Ghana, Mohammed Ahmed Alhumaidee, has commissioned a number of mechanised bole holes to compliment efforts of the Government to provide potable water for rural communities in the Agona West Municipality.
Between 20,000 and 40.000 people in the beneficiary communities, would be enjoying potable water to reduce communicable diseases that may affect them and curb water shortage, which they have been experiencing.
The 25 mechanised bole holes were estimated at the cost of 500,000 Ghana Cedis and were financed by the Qatar Charity- Ghana, a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) and supervised by the Agona West Municipal Assembly. Addressing the function after the commissioning of the project at Nkranfo, Ambassador Alhumaidee said the provision of the potable water by Qatar Charity was symbolic to deepen relationship between Ghana and Qatar.
He said the Qatar would continue to support Ghana’s socio-economic advancement of the citizenry, adding that it would go a long way to enhance provision of good drinking water for those in the rural communities.
Ambassador Alhumaidee assured the people that Qatar would never distance herself from Ghana’ infrastructural development efforts to promote wellbeing of the people. The Qatar Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Izzideen Yusuf Daifalah, Country-Director for Qatar Charity and other officials of the Charity in Ghana.
Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) thanked the Qatar Charity-Ghana for the provision of the potable water which could benefit more than 20,000 and 40,000 people in the Municipality. The MCE said the Qatar Charity had not only provided water alone, but had also agreed to renovate basic School block at Nkranfo which would promote quality teaching and learning.
She said the Qatar Charity had also adopted Nyakrom Siddiqq Senior High School, the only Islamic Secondary School in the Central Region to provide structures and other facilities to enhance academic excellence. The MCE expressed the hope that the Qatar Charity would continue to offer more support in the areas of education, health and others to facilitate well-being of the people in Agona West.
She said the assistance given to the Agona West Municipality would go a long way to strengthen ties between Qatar and Ghana, adding that, government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuf-Addo had prepared enough grounds for both local and foreign investors to come and invest in Ghana to improve the economy.
Mrs Assan commended the Qatar Charity for the immense contributions being made towards socio-economic advancement of the people in the rural communities of Ghana.
Okofo Katakyi Nyarkoh Eku X, OManhene of Nyakrom Traditional Area who chaired the function praised the Qatar Charity for the provision of good drinking water to the Agona West.
The Omanhene expressed happiness about the peaceful co-existence between the Muslims and Christians in the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area and urged the two religious sects to maintain the relationship.
He said the Qatar Charity would not provide the water alone, but endeavour to assist other areas which were equally important to raise the good living standards of the people.
