The event formed part of the NCCE's Constitution Week Celebration
The Association Community Junior High School (JHS) has won the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE)’s Quiz in the La Dadekotopon Municipality.
It bagged 59 points, followed by Bass Workshop with 38 points; while Anglican Two JHS came third with 36 points.
The fourth position went out to La Wireless One JHS chalking 35 points, St. Maurice being the fifth with 30 points and Services JHS emerging sixth with 29 points.
Thirty-six schools from six Educational Circuits in the LaDMA Assembly participated in the quiz, jointly organised by local NCCE and the Education Directorate, with the support of the Municipal Assembly.
The competition was divided into three parts -the first section was made up of the 1992 Constitution; the second was on Local Government and the last section on General Knowledge and Current Affairs.
The event formed part of the NCCE's Constitution Week Celebration.
Ms Josephine Nkrumah, the NCCE Chairperson, advised the participants and the other pupils to attend to the study of the Constitution with seriousness, saying the Competition must go beyond winning it to spreading the knowledge.
“The NCCE has organised this quiz for you to know the constitution and be better citizens, read and study the constitution and also safeguard the environment,” she emphasised.
She said a similar quiz was organised on learning how to dispose off rubbish so as to curb the menace of dumping rubbish in gutters and illegal areas.
Mrs Gloria A. Kudo, NCCE LaDMA Director, said the aim of the quiz was to help create awareness of the 1992 Constitution for the pupils to defend it at all times.
She said the competition started from October 30 and that one school qualified from each circuit to make it to the finals.
Mrs Kudo commended Mr Vincent Sowah Odotei the Member of Parliament for the area, the Municipal Assembly and Indomie for their investment in the children towards making them responsible citizens.
Mrs Bernice A. Addae, the Municipal Director of Education for LaDMA, said the competition had brought various schools together and enhanced the cooperation in the area.
Sheikh Alhaji Abdul Rashid Nii Anyetei Odoi Atsem, Chief Imam of the La Muslim Community, said their invitation showed the unity among all religious bodies in Ghana and that spirit of inclusivity should be protected jealously.
He urged the students to be law abiding and help in the development of the country in whatever way they could.
Trophies were awarded to the first two winners, while consolation prizes were given to the contestants.
Additionally, all the participating schools were awarded certificates in addition to copies of the constitutions.
Madam Nkrumah, Madam Gladys Tsotsoo Mann-Dadey, LaDMA’s Chief Executive, and Mrs Addae were given citations, as well as some hardworking teachers and circuit supervisors for their outstanding contributions.
