Two teachers in the Banda Ahenkro Methodist Basic School in the Brong Ahafo Region have each received GH?5 worth of airtime for emerging the overall best teachers in the school.
Christopher Appiah, a Primary Four teacher in the school, disclosed to Onua FM that he took home GH?5 airtime for emerging the best teacher in the primary section while another colleague of his also received the same package for topping the Junior High School section.
According to the awarding-winning Christopher Appiah, the award scheme was instituted by the Chairman of the Parents-Teacher Association (PTA), William Kwabena Sefah, to honour teachers who excelled in their work.
He explained two other colleagues who came as runners-up were also given GH?2 airtime each as their prize packages.
He added they are all happy because they have never received an award in their line of duty before.
A Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) teacher, who Mr. Appiah said was recently posted to the school, was also recognized with a GH?2 airtime prize package in a special category for punctuality.
The PTA Chairman, William Kwabena Sefa, confirmed the report on Onua FM, indicating the award scheme is his initiative to encourage teachers in the school to give off their best and also boost the quality of teaching and learning in school.
He observed that even though the prizes he gave out are not expensive, he believes it is a good start and has thus called on the Ministry of Education to give incentives to teachers in less endowed communities to boost their morale.
