Apirede-Trom Junction road to be completed in 2005

Apirede(E/R), Jan. 1, GNA- The Vice-President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has given the assurance that the Apirede to Trom Junction Road in the Akuapem North District which had been executed to 45 per cent, had been programmed for completion this year.

He said, the rehabilitation of the Apirede township roads had also been captured by the Department of Feeder Roads for work to begin within the year.

These were contained in a speech read on behalf of Alhaji Mahama at this year's Odwira Festival of the chiefs and people of Apirede-Akuapem on Friday. The celebration also marked the 10th anniversary of the installation of the chief of Apirede, Nana Saforo Okoampa, III. The Vice-President assurance that the water systems of Apirede and Larteh, which were not covered by the first phase of the Spanish Protocol Agreement would be duly tackled during 2005, On behalf of President John A. Kufour, Alhaji Mahama thanked the people of Apirede and the entire Akuapem area for their support during the December, elections which enabled the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to retain the Okere seat and continue to be in government for another four years.

He said the overwhelming vote obtained by the NPP was an indication of the confidence and trust the people have in the party and its ability to carry through its good programmes designed to bring rapid socio-economic development to every part of the country. In a welcoming address, Nana Okoampa enumerated a list of development projects that had been completed in the town during his ten years rule.

He said to ensure the accelerated development and poverty reduction in the area, a group of eminent citizens had been put in place under the name Apirede Development Advisory Council(ADAC) to plan development programmes for the people.

Nana Okoampa said the council had instituted a levy for all Apirede citizens to be used to support the development projects of the town. He appealed to government for the construction of a market complex and the completion of the community clinic in town.
