The Shiloh Baptist Church has distributed Bibles to the Manheam Senior High Technical School in Tema Newtown as part of their effort to reach young people with the word of God.
The concept, which ensures that the about 1011 Students of the school and 96 members of staff each gets a Bible actualized by the Glorious Vibrations Incorporated, a former Music and Drama Group of Tema Secondary School.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday after the distribution, the Senior Pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, Reverend Djaba Nyakotey, observed the need for the spreading of God’s word by saying, “There was a correlation between the sobriety that came from knowing God and progress in life at every level.”
Rev. Nyakotey said those who got distracted and got involved in the mess of the world, hardly ever earned a decent living in life, and therefore there was the need for the youth to hold fast to the word of God as an insurance for their adult lives.
Rev. Nyakotey hinted that, men now lived in a dangerous world and that parents should know that the only thing that could help the young ones was the word of God, and therefore should encourage children to join children Bible Clubs and strong Christian youth clubs even if they were not organized by their denominations.
He said some parents might not even have the time to find out what was happening in the lives of their children, because they might not even know how the whole stream of life was flowing today.
“A parent once said : my child is not like this or that, but put a smart phone in the hand of that child and let that child stay indoors and he or she could be in your room but could be in France, etc.,” he indicated.
According to him, “It is like being bombarded from various angles with arrows shot from everywhere, however, the old fashioned thing is to go back very early in the morning to read the word of God and meditate on it and have God’s strength to march on for the day”.
Rev. Nyakotey was saddened how some parents did not see that raising their children was a priority, because they were busy chasing the good things of the world and trying to make ends meet, and thinking that was where their salvation laid.
The cleric asked young people to keep the word of God in their hearts, because the world was bombarding them and they had no chance, because the radio, television and the internet got to them and they learnt bad morals from them with the electronic addiction being strong on computers and on phones.
The Headmistress of the School, Mrs. Philomena Owusu-Ansah Barnes, said, “It was a good gesture. As they are going out with the Bibles, it would change their ways of lives and with the help of God and by reading they are going to make an improvement in their lives in the future.”
Mrs. Barnes informed parents about the many influences that affected young people and the need to guide their children and prevent bad influences.
“Most parents are not in control of what was happening in their homes, but they must have time for their children and with that they could make a change one day,” she said.
Shiloh Baptist Church, Dawhenya, and the Glorious Vibrations Incorporated, have also distributed Bibles to students of Tema Secondary School and have the vision of reaching as many young people as possible with the word of God.
