Mr. Dennis Armah-Frempong, District Chief Executive for Agona East has broken grounds for the construction of a three-classroom block with a staff common room for Agona Nsaba Islamic Basic school at cost of GHS 200, 000.
The project, expected to be completed within three months, is being funded by the Coastal Development Authority (CDA).
It will help to decongest the overcrowded classrooms in the old block that had 70 students in each to 45 students per classroom, in line with the Ghana Education Service (GES) regulation.
The DCE said the provision of additional classrooms with big staff common room would give impetus to teachers to give of their best to reduce poor performance of students.
Mr. Armah-Frempong praised the teachers for their hard work, dedication, and selflessness in the training and moulding of the students to enable them to become responsible adults in future.
According to the DCE, the Government under President Akufo-Addo instituted a policy to provide furniture to every new classroom block that would be constructed. The District Assembly has made provision for furniture for many deprived schools, he noted and called on the School Management Committee (SMC) and other stakeholders to take the school as their personal property. He said the Assembly was poised to give the necessary logistics support to the Agona East District Directorate of Education to intensify monitoring and supervision of schools to promote quality teaching and learning. Osabarimba Bishop Boappiah Afriyie III, Omanhene of Nsaba Traditional Area abhorred the situation where some new school blocks developed cracks few months after completion and asked the contractor to provide quality work to ensure value for money.
He praised the DCE for his tireless efforts in ensuring quality education in the district, which helped to improve results of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the District.
Mr. Kofi Kwarteng, Managing Director of GloveVision Investment limited, contractors of the project assured the Omanhene, the Assembly and the Education Directorate of quality job to be completed on schedule.
Madam Vida Amoah -Mintah, Agona East District Education Director expressed appreciation to the Assembly and Coastal Development Authority for the project.
