About 12 communities in the Tolon District of the Northern Region have received electricity for the first time.

The communities include Tolon Sabeg, Tolon Chashogu, Fihini, Kpalgun, Zaguma, Gbanjong, Kuglog, Nlalayili, Nagbeligu, Daboashee, Yobziri and Vowagiri.

The extension of the electricity to the communities started on March 2018 under the NEVRED project and contracted by the Hunan Construction Engineering Group Ltd with supervision from the VRA.

Speaking to the media, the District Chief Executive for Tolon, Hon Balchisu Yakubu said, the commissioning of the electrification project is one of the many development projects yet to be executed by the NPP government, reiterating that, the government is working very hard to achieve its mandate.

She said the Assembly is working tirelessly to ensure every community in the district has its share of the national cake.

The Tolon DCE said, the Assembly has initiated a lot of programmes to improve the social-economic development of the people, “the Assembly is working very hard to fix all the bad roads in the district”.

Hon Balchisu assured the people that, plans are far advanced to tackle the water situation in some parts of the district.

She entreated the beneficiary communities not to endanger themselves with the electricity since they will be using it for the first time.

Hon Balchisu explains that, though electricity has a lot of economic benefits, there are dangers associated with the use of electric power.

She thus advised the people not indulge in illegal connection, “The VRA people are here to help you, so please don’t do things that will bring disaster”.

She hinted that the Assembly together with the power distribution company (VRA/GRidCO) will sensitize the beneficiary communities about the usage of the electricity.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Hon Wahab Suhuyini Wembei thanked the contractors of the project.

The excited communities amidst singing and dancing expressed their profound gratitude to the government for extending electricity to the communities.

“We are very happy today, some of us cannot believe this is happening. We thanked the government for this development”. A spokesperson for the Chief of Tolon Sabeg, Chief Ziblim Sumani said
