New Edubiase (Ash), March 5, GNA - The development stakeholders in the Adansi South district of Ashanti held a forum at New Edubiase at the weekend to map out a three-year HIV/AIDS strategic plan for the district.

The aim was to find the best ways of controlling the spread of the infection in the area.

It attracted the departmental heads, members of Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in the district as well as the media personnel.

Speaking at the forum, Mr P.K. Mensah, Adansi South District HIV/AIDS Focal Person, disclosed that the prevalence rate of the disease in the district is about 3.7 per cent.

He said the district has experienced an increase of the spread of the disease since the year 2000.

Mr Mensah disclosed that only about 1.1 per cent of persons who are sexually active use condom in the district, a situation, he said has contributed to the increasing rate of the disease spread in the area. Mr Dominic Alfred Yeboah, the District Chief Executive, advised the people to go for voluntary tests to know their status. The forum called on the assembly to release more funds for HIV/AIDS programme in the district.
