The leadership of Private schools in Ghana have held a 4-day national simulation training for close to two hundred master trainers for the soon to be effected standard academic curriculum in the Ejura Municipality.
This was done under the approval of authorities of the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, the National Curriculum Assessment Association and the Pre-Tertiary Directorate of Education.
It sought to prepare master trainers who have been selected from private schools across the country on how to effectively teach their fellow private teachers on the new standard based curriculum at the 98 training centres created through the collaboration of private schools in the country.
The foregoing was realised during the event as they were schooled on what the new curriculum entails, concept of the subjects and the core points they are supposed to deliver so as to achieve their objective.
Participants who were classed into three groupings which included KG, Primary and French class expressed much excitement in an interview with Daniel Kaku over the training following the insight knowledge acquired on the new curriculum.
Briefing the media on the sidelines during the program, the Executive Director for GNACOPS, Mr. Enoch Gyetuah announced that the master trainers after the simulation training will be certified and deployed to the 98 centres created by the council to train private school teachers on Monday 19th August to 27th September 2019 under the supervision of authorities of Pre-tertiary Directorate of Education.
Per the stipulated plan for the training, 12 centers he underlined will be covered on Monday 19th August 2019, followed by another 12 centres on the subsequent week.
He continued that the foregoing pattern will be replicated weekly till all the 98 centres are covered by the master trainers.
He, therefore, described the training as the first of its kind in the academic history of Ghana.
“This is the first time the Ministry of Education has allowed private schools to train their own teachers. Master trainers should, therefore, see themselves blessed for being selected out of the numerous private schools in the country. They should go out and deliver effectively at the various training centres and avoid any practice that will militate the agreed road map”, he said during the press briefing.
Dr. Mantey Jectey-Nyarko who is a lecturer at KNUST- Faculty of Arts Department (Painting and Culture), doubling as the one in charge of Research and Training for GNACOPS called on Education Directors to ensure that the training is not infiltrated by quark master trainers.
He stressed that supervisors should resist imposters who will show up to make false claims that they have been certified to train.
Dr. Mantey continued in his statement that District Supervisors should make sure that certified master trainers of the private school coalition are recognised as the only people qualified to train private school teachers.
