The National Youth Authority (NYA), has sensitised some Basic schools in the Wa Municipality on the importance of volunteerism and patriotism in nation building.

Mr Ibrahim Bawa, the Wa Munnicipal Director of NYA told the GNA in Wa on Wednesday that the essence of the programme was to educate the school children on the need to be patriotic to the nation to ensure they grew up to become responsible leaders.

He said most people had the wrong notion that the reward for hard work was money and that there were more benefits when people worked with passion on whatever task they are given.

Mr Bawa said the NYA office had formed volunteerism clubs in the Wa module, which included; the St Cecilia, Kanbanye Junior High School and in some other 18 Junior High Schools within the Wa Municipality to take up responsibilities in their schools.

They included; Erosion Check Volunteers, Health Volunteers and Sanitation Volunteers.

The Municipal NYA Director said the purpose of the programme is to also make sure that those still in the basic schools took national agenda important for the collective benefit of themselves and society.

“The 18 schools covered are taken through the benefits of volunteerism and patriotism for nation building” he said.

According to Mr Bawa the teachers of the schools especially the headmasters were supportive during the sensitisation period and in taking up responsibilities of coordinating the various volunteer groups.
