Akim Oda, May 16, GNA - The Akim Kotoku Traditional Council has denied a publication in the May 12 issue of the "Daily Graphic" that a Traditional Council meeting was held at Akim Oda recently.

A statement issued at Akim Oda on Monday and signed by Obrempong Affum Afronteng IV, the acting President of the Council said, the Council had never sat for six years now.

The statement further stated that, before any such meeting takes place, it would be the acting President, who will convey it and nobody else and urged the public to ignore the publication "with the contempt it deserved."

"Interested persons should cross-check facts at the Traditional Council Registrar to verify the date, minutes and the venue where such a meeting was supposed to have been held," the statement said. The statement accused the Gyasehene, Obrempong Asare Antwi Peasah and a few of his "cronies of trying to usurp powers and undermine authority in the traditional area." The statement made it clear that it was not the Council's responsibility to lobby for the appointment of the District Chief Executive for the area but it was prepared to co-operate with anybody the President would appoint.
