Sekondi Methodist Park and Adiembra Park are set to be transformed into an ultra-modern Astroturf park.
The construction of the two projects have been awarded to the Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited and W360 Company Limited respectively and both projects are scheduled to be completed between four to six months.
The sod-cutting ceremony for this landmark project aimed at restoring sport development in the Sekondi Constituency was held last Friday at the respective construction sites in anticipation of the grand completion of two the parks.
Speaking to the media at the sod-cutting ceremony, Honorable Andrew Egyapa Mercer said he is optimistic that the astroturf will facilitate the development of more football talents for his constituency and the nation at large.
"I expect more youths to be enthusiastic about this project and harness their sporting talents," he said.
These two projects are full-sized artificial pitches. We don't have more of such pitches in the country. "If we maintain them very well, other football clubs could pay for their use and could be used for convention etc that will generate much revenue for their maintenance the", MP assured.
He indicated that these projects are in line with President Akufo-Addo's vision to have decent and modern multipurpose sports facilities across the country for sports and talent development among the youth in the country.
These two projects are funded by Ghana Gas Company Limited (GGCL) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) respectively.
Youth for Change, Ladies for Mercer, Mercer Fun Club among other various Youth Groups who were present at the sod-cutting ceremony showed their excitement and sense of gratitude to the MP and the Leadership of the two companies who have released funds to ensure the project comes to successful completion.
The ceremony was well attended by some party stalwart of New Patriotic Party from both Regional and National Levels.
The two sod-cutting ceremonies were climaxed with health walk through the principal streets within the Sekondi Constituency.
The artificial grass turfs are earmarked for renovation every ten years after their successful completion.
