Assin Foso (C/R), June 27, GNA - The Assin Area Development Programme of the World Vision Ghana, has trained 114 disease surveillance volunteers to monitor and to report on the outbreak of any disease in their communities to the nearest health facility.
Mr Francis Armo-Annor, Area Development Programme Manager, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at Assin Foso said the gesture, was to facilitate early detection of diseases for treatment. He said World Vision had also supported the District Health Management Team to train a number of traditional birth attendants to promote safe child delivery in rural communities where health facilities did not exist.
Mr Armo-Annor said his organisation also sponsored the Disease Control Unit of the Ghana Health Service to conduct a survey on bilhazia in 2001, which indicated that the prevalence rate among children in the area was 51 per cent. "We again provided resources for the treatment of the disease", he said noting that preparations were going on for the next survey in July this year, to assess how effectively the disease had been brought under control.
