A new District Magistrates Court Complex is set to be constructed in Koforidua to replace the present old and awful-looking District Magistrates Courts A and B, the New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive, Isaac Appaw-Gyasi has disclosed.
The sod cutting to officially kick-start the construction of the project, which will be funded by the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), will take place in March this year.
Responding to questions from the media during a Meet the Press session, the MCE said, in 2019 when the former Chief Justice, Mrs. Sophia Akuffo, visited the Municipality and saw the state of the two lower courts, she was unhappy about them and said they did not befit the status of the New Juaben South Municipality.
Mr. Appaw-Gyasi said the former Chief Justice threatened to collapse the two Magistrates Courts if suitable structures were not built to accommodate them.
“I quickly contacted the DACF Administrator, Mrs. Naa Torshie Addo, who benevolently included the New Juben South in the 50 beneficiary list and I happy to confirm that in March this year construction of the (Magistrates) Court Complex will commence,” he explained.
Some residents of Koforidua and judicial staff members pleading anonymity expressed their grievance about the state of the two Courts notably called Mangoase District Magistrates Court and the Cocoa Ase District Magistrates Court.
They had appealed that the government needed to urgently intervene by renovating the old structures or constructing a new building for the courts.
The MCE expressed elation about the DACF’s timely interventions in enhancing development in the New Juaben South Municipality, saying, from 2017 to 2019, his outfit had received a sum of GHC 4,947,633.30 for various development projects.
