Members of the CCE team who visited the Borstal Institute
The Centre for Citizens Empowerment (CCE) presented hand washing buckets with hand washing liquid soups, toilet rolls, biscuits, chocolates and assorted drinks to the Accra Senior Correctional Centre (Borstal Institute) to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the young offenders.
The Centre for Citizens Empowerment has adopted the Senior Correctional Centre in Accra as it’s Borstal Institute Project.
As part of the Borstal Institute Project, CCE has a partnership agreement with the Senior Correctional Centre where two senior members of CCE who are retired Magistrates in the persons of H. W. Rtd Johanna Abena Yankson, Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors of CCE and H.W. Rtd Janet Awo Bakudie provide free teaching and mentorship services to the Centre.
In an interaction with some of the Young Offenders , H.W. Johanna Abena Yankson encouraged them to take their studies serious to become important people in the society.
“I know you want to become doctors, Pastors, Lawyers in future and you would have to learn hard to achieve your aim. We are here to let you know that we love you and we would continue to support you.”
H.W. Janet Awo Bakudie assured the Correctional Centre of the continued support of CCE.
Mr Daniel Owusu-Koranteng, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CCE, encouraged the Young Offenders to take advantage of the opportunities being offered at the correctional centre so that they would become important people to play leadership roles in Ghana’s development.
Officers of the Ghana Prisons Service at the Centre expressed appreciation to CCE for its continuous support to the centre.
Mr Isaac Asare the Ag. Executive Director of CCE in his introductory remarks said that the Centre for Citizens Empowerment is a non-profit organization that provide access to justice support services to the citizenry, particularly the poor and vulnerable in society.
The Centre supports the poor and vulnerable through legal aid services and alternative dispute resolution services.
As part of the Centre’s support to the vulnerable in society, CCE identified the Borstal Institute as one of the avenues that CCE can support the vulnerable through mentorship programmes for the young offenders.
