Irresponsible parenthood blamed for poor child upbringing

Kumasi, Oct. 21, GNA - Mrs Theodosia Jackson, National President of the Ghana Conference on Evangelism (GHACOE), has blamed the poor training and immoral conduct of the youth on irresponsible parenthood. She said even though most parents were aware of their responsibility for the proper upbringing of their children, they deliberately ignored such responsibility and most often used their busy schedules as excuses.

Mrs Jackson was speaking on the topic "Parental challenges of a Christian Woman in the 21st Century", at a day's seminar organized by the Ashanti Regional branch of the Students Union of the Assemblies of God for the Church's Women's Ministry in Kumasi on Friday. The seminar formed part of activities marking the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Union under the theme "A Christian Student in Nation Building".

Other activities for the yearlong celebration are, village evangelism, excursions, clean-up exercises and lectures. Mrs Jackson, who is also the Headmistress of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Junior Secondary School (JSS), expressed concern about women who give money to their children to buy food outside the home instead of teaching their daughters home economics and cooking.

She said such a practice was not only unhygienic, but would affect the knowledge of the girls in cooking.

Mrs Jackson noted that food preparation was one of the crucial ingredients and elements necessary to guarantee and secure marriages and should therefore not be taken for granted by mothers.
