Correspondence from Western Region:

Kamgbunli community in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region has mounted the radar again, silencing the cries helpless people in the community by sharing items worth GHC12,172.00 to sustain them throughout Ramadan.

Muslims across the globe commenced the fasting in accordance with the dictates of the Quran to observe the holy month of Ramadan which started on April 24, 2020.

This year's Ramadan appears to be exceptional as it is being observed without normal congregational prayers, as a result of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

As good luck would have it, the community elders headed by District Chief Imam, Mustapha Kwesi Buah (Arafat), donated to groups in each of their four created communities to help them survive throughout the month of Ramadan.

The items included; 60 bags of rice, 14 bags of sugar, 3 Veronica buckets, 3 sunlight liquid soap, 100 nose/face masks.

The recipient groups were; the poor, widow, orphans and the needy in each of the 4 communities. There were about 400 beneficiaries in all.

Out of the items, each person was given a bag of rice and a pack of sugar.

The targeted groups (traders and travellers) for the 100 nose/face masks also received theirs in a solo manner to ensure safety in their trading activities.

3 Veronica buckets were placed at strategic points, increasing the quantity of Veronica buckets in the community.

Mustapha Kwesi Buah (Arafat), District Chief Imam, who presented the items to the beneficiaries in front of the Central Mosque, on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, urged the multitudes to strictly heed to the directives given by health officials and the President of Ghana to avert contracting the disease.

"I am pleading with everyone to strictly adhere to the directives. This is a deadly virus we must take seriously. We are all at risk. Let's use this grace Ramadan period to pray for forgiveness and eradication of the disease", he said.
