An Accra-based building and civil engineering firm, K.A Dwamena Company Limited has been commended for work done on the construction of a multi- purpose youth centre in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region.

Mr Sylvester Matthew Tetteh Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of National Youth Authority (NYA), said the level of work done so far on the project being executed by the Authority was excellent.

He said with the quality work delivery, government would have no other option than to award majority of its contracts to Ghanaian-owned construction companies to boost the local economy and create jobs for the people. Mr Mensah said this when he inspected progress of work on the project sited at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

He was accompanied by Francisca Oteng Mensah, the Chairperson of the NYA Governing Board and Mr Henry Nana Boakye, a board member.

Work on the first phase of the project, being put up by the NYA started in June last year and is expected to be completed by June 2020.

It contains a football pitch, four stands, volley, basketball and long tennis courts, ICT and skills training centres, washrooms, media booth, restaurant, car park and a hostel.

The facility is in fulfilment of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s 2016 campaign promise to promote youth development in the country by creating opportunities to unearth and develop their talents through the provision of skills training avenues to create realistic job opportunities.

The second phase will be the construction of perimeter fence wall, drainage systems and some relevant components of the facility.

Mr Mensah said the progress and quality of work on the Centre was the best so far among all the nine others being implemented across the country.

He said the initiative taken by the construction firm to add certain components such as the disabled walkway and an elevator to the VIP which were not captured by the initial designs were highly commendable.

“This is exactly what the nation required from local construction firms to acquire government contracts”, he added.

On his part, Mr Boakye, who is the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stressed government’s achievements on youth development alone in the past three years was unprecedented in the history of the nation. This, he said, justified why Ghanaians should vote and retain the NPP in government for the second term to better the lives of the people.

Mr Kwabena Dwamena, the Managing Director of the Company Limited, said the first phase was about 93 per cent complete, saying the projects would be completed and handed-over by the close of the year.
