Inhabitants of Kwahu Twenedurase, a community in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region have appealed to government to provide them with potable water to help curb the scarcity of water in the area.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency(GNA) at Kwahu Twenedurase, Mr Daniel Ofosu Darfour, the Assembly Member for the Twenedurase Electoral Area said, water scarcity in the area had always been a problem for inhabitants of the community.

He explained that the situation gets worse during the dry season and he had to fund the supply of water to the people, especially the aged in the area by water tankers.

He said the problem was hindering school enrollment and cause lateness of pupils and teachers to school as they have to travel long distances to have access to potable water.

Mr Darfour said the only source of water serving the community was a spring that comes from some rocks but was not reliable and enough for the whole community.

He expressed worry about the hygienic nature of the water body saying inhabitants could be exposed to waterborne diseases and therefore called for immediate intervention.

Kwahu Twenedurase is a farming community in the Kwahu South District with over 1,000 inhabitants and they cultivate cassava, plantain, garden eggs, pepper, and tomatoes.
