A 22- year old beauty pageant and student of Ho Nursing Training College has donated COVID-19 relief support items to the Avatime Traditional Council at Vane in the Ho-West District of the Volta Region for onward distribution to health institutions and deprived persons in the area.

Miss Mawulorm Anani was crowned 2019 Miss Amu, after emerging the overall winner of a beauty pageant contest during the 2019 Avatime Amu (Brown Rice) Festival held at Amedzofe in the same District in November last year.

The assorted items worth more than Two Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC2,000.00) including packs of tissue, gallons of liquid soap, hand sanitizers, food supplements, cartons of royal brand cocoa drink, aprons, face masks, gloves, bandages and syringes among others were sponsored by the 2019 Avatime Amu Festival Organizing Committee and some other benefactors.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Ms Anani explained that the donation of items forms part of COVID-19 social intervention project involving sensitization campaigns and logistical relief support to mitigate the impact of community spread of the disease and its associated compliance to public health etiquettes and mandatory public gathering restrictions.

“It is imperative for us as community stakeholders, corporate institutions and the government to focus prime attention on rural dwellers, most of whom are aged and deprived persons during this critical period of COVID-19 pandemic and its socio-economic adverse effects on the citizenry, hence the adoption of this social intervention,” Miss Anani remarked.

She thanked the 2019 Avatime Amu Festival Organizing Committee as well as Mayanar Fabrications Limited and some other individual benefactors for their support.

On his part, the Paramount Chief of Avatime, Osie Adza Tekpor VII, who received the items on behalf of Avatime communities expressed appreciation to Miss Amu for her “wonderful initiative” and the 2019 Avatime Amu Festival Organizing Committee for their support.

While congratulating His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo for demonstrating dedication and able leadership in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic so far, he also appealed to him to consider pensioners now dwelling in rural communities after retirement in the disbursement of the stimulus package.

He also expressed gratitude to Former President Mahama as well as other corporate, civil society and individuals for their humanitarian support towards the vulnerable and the National COVID-19 response fund. Photo Caption:
