Ejura (Ash), Jan 2, GNA - The Ejura congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in collaboration with the Ejura Traditional Council and the Ejura-Sekyedumase District Assembly on Sunday honoured three prominent religious figures from the area. They are the Right Rev Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Very Rev Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, President of the Trinity Theological Seminary in Accra and the Right Rev Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi.
They were honoured for proving their mantle as role models and spiritual leaders.
Preaching the sermon, which marked the occasion and also coincided with the sod-cutting for the construction of a new chapel complex for the Ejura congregation, the Rev. Dr Frimpong-Manso called on Christians to approach the New Year as a year of closeness to the second coming of Jesus Christ.
He said as every year draws the world closer to the second coming of Christ, there was the need for Christians to make the year an effective evangelisation and a year of prayer. The Rev Frimpong-Manso urged Christians to pray so that 2006 would be devoid of natural catastrophes and accidents and urged Ghanaians to strive to make 2006 a year of political and religious tolerance, the fear of God and total intolerance for corruption. The Very Rev Prof. Asante said they were overwhelmed by the honour done them particularly the citations and that they could not have achieved this successes without their support.
He urged the youth to refrain from drugs and embark on useful ventures to improve upon their living standards and the level of their education.
Dr Joshua Ayarkwa, the Ejura-Sekyedumase District Chief Executive, said it was not by coincidence that the church, traditional council and the assembly decided to honour the three prominent citizens of the town but that their very persons symbolized peace, prosperity and unity.
Alhaji Issifu Pangabu, Member of Parliament for Ejura-Sekyedumase, called on the people to bury their political differences so that together they could move the district forward.
Nana Kwaku Sarfo II, Ejurahene, said the people were happy to show their love and appreciation for the sterling performance of their illustrious sons towards the development of the area. Over 14 million cedis was realized in an appeal for funds towards the construction of a new church complex.
