The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency, Andrews Chiwitey Dari, has said he is not in competition with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to develop the Constituency.

Speaking on the morning show (kokokiliyakoo) of Bole based Nkilgi FM on 3rd June, 2020, the MP said; “My target to serve the people the way I want them to be served..my target is to see my people happy and to get what they want. The people are the best judges because I have always delivered”.

The MP for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency made these comments in response to accusations by the NPP in the Constituency that he the MP “shamelessly claimed to have constructed a Dam for the people of Nyange- Kura”.

A statement signed by the NPP Communication Director for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency Welleh Emmanuel said each household within the community was levied to pay an amount of ¢250.00 and that other individual members of the community even contributed more than the MP’s support hence the MP has no right to claim to build a dam for their people.

Welleh Emmanuel said; “It is unfortunate for a lawmaker to subject his own people to this fraudulent act, pure political defilement and rape” and further called on the MP to stop claiming false projects and fix the pieces together”.

But the Hon MP for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency explained that the people of Nyange-Kura community will bear witness that he is responsible for the construction of the dam. He said members of the community did make some contribution for the digging of a dam but their money was not enough to do the project so they came to him and explained their plight.

He said for the start he provided six drums of fuel for the project after the community has already organised and hired a bulldozer for only three days amounting to about ¢3,000 and after the three days he took over the rest of the cost for another three days the bulldozer did in the community plus some other costs till the project got completed.

“The community was doing some further contribution but I stopped them and told the leaders of the Community to return the money to the those who contributed again and took over the project and completed it”; he said it.

Hon Andrews Chiwetey said the NPP should sit up and serve the people and that they have been in government for close to four years but cannot point at any developing projects in the area.

He said he as an opposition MP has provided two Ambulances, Hospital beds, over 10 boreholes numerous school projects across the Constituency and many other development projects. He said he doesn’t make too much noise nut will keep working for the people of the Constituency.
