Kumasi, Jan 9, GNA- The Asante United Front (AUF), a pressure group in Kumasi, has commended the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo for his meritorious services and contribution to the development of the Region. The Front noted that Mr Boafo as the longest serving Regional Minister, he had contributed towards the peaceful atmosphere in the region, which had provided an enabling environment for the effective implementation of government policies.
In a New Year message by the Chairman, Opanin Kwame Afreh, the Front noted that Mr Boafo, had made discipline a hallmark during his five years in office, through his believe in hard work, honesty and transparency. "As a political head in the region, Mr Boafo has proven subservient in propagating government policies and programmes" Opanin Afreh said, adding that he had consolidated the relationship between the government and the Manhyia Palace.
Opanin Afreh commended President Kufuor for his tolerance and sense of maturity and responsibility and lauded the rapport between him and the Regional Minister, which provided him the opportunity to work in a conducive atmosphere for the general development of the region. The Front also recommended to President Kufuor to consider Mr Boafo for a higher position to avail his rich experience as a successful politician at the national level. "As a man of substance, Mr Boafo has proven capable to work in all capacities in nation building". The AUF observed that Mr Boafo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Subin, is an experienced politician whose political career started in 1977. He served as an appointed Councillor of the Asante-Akim District Council and later elected MP for Asante-Akim South in 1979 to 1981 during which he served as Vice-Chairman of the Committee of Labour, Social Welfare and Co-operatives and House Committee. He was the founder of the NPP branch in Toronto in Canada and a former Chairman of the NPP branch in London.
Mr Boafo has been a member of the party's National Council since 1992 and has served as a member of a number of committees in Parliament. He is also a member of the National Executive Council. Opanin Afreh urged Ghanaians to be tolerant to ensure the smooth implementation of government policies within the constitutional mandate of President Kufuor. This is not the time for struggle for political leadership, the Front said, and called on all aspiring presidential candidates to exercise restraint in pursuing their political ambitions in order not to disrupt the developmental agenda of the government. Opanin Afreh asked all presidential candidates to count on divine direction and not rush for leadership positions, which could land the country into hardship and chaos.
