  Religion is nothing more than a distinct body of belief and practice kept in place by hierarchy of authoritative institutions called churches. Religion is entirely man made.
  
  Church hierarchies discourage the direct experience of the divine by making themselves official conduits to the sacred.
  
  The common thread of teachings of religions through churches involve;
  
  1. Duty to God exceeds all other priorities, invariably induced by fear.
  
  2. Obedience and myrtydom in the service of God will be rewarded in the garden of paradise; never while you are living on earth but after death; promise which no living man/woman can ever verify.

  You mentioned that "... the most important convergent point is ethics. This is the pattern of acceptable behavior and conduct--what is considered right, honorable and praiseworthy by all civilized societies."
  
  The cultural relativitist like the religious leaders who "strut the corridors of power, dressed in the garb of riches to intone their messages to the miserable ones from whom they extort huge amounts of wealth……", may disagree with you and continue doing what they do best.
  
  The question is: who determines what
  is right or wrong? Answer: Not ethics, but God.
  "And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die"(Genesis 2:16-17).
  "...for by the law is the knowledge of sin"(Romans 3:20b).
  
  We have a God of order and he expects his children to place an inestimable value on his image in us. It is this image which defines our relationship with him, and makes obedience to God's law paramount in our lives.
  "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" (Genesis 1:27).
  
  Here is the secret of success in obedience to God's Law. Note:
  "Now we find that the Law keeps slipping into the picture to point the vast extent of sin. Yet, though sin is shown to be wide and deep, thank God his grace is wider and deeper still! The whole outlook changes - sin used to be the master of men and in the end handed them over to death: now grace is the ruling factor, with righteousness as its purpose and its end the bringing of men to the eternal life of God through Jesus Christ our Lord."(Romans 5:20-21,phillips).

  When the bible speak we see God.God shines into us constituting us with himself as a treasure.love and all diven attribute of GOD is for our enjoyment by we drinking the fountian of life.it is in his light that we see light.christ is the only measure of our spirituality and our ministry if we are short of him what we produce is wood,grass,stubble.but if we are full of him,how glorious,so aboundand,rich,full and sweat he gives the spirit without measure.

  Pastor im not sure w e need to unmask the religious teachers. Rather the false hood that they speak , says who they are and to whom they belong.
  
  The tendency to use the pulpit and hold Gods people captives with I I I and me me me and all sort of buffoonery to justify poor choices and self distructive lifestyle is sad.
  
  What goes through the mind-and the heart of these religious leaders when they stand in Gods presence and about face lie to garner sympathy. If one cant be honest in God's presence one cannot be honest anywhere
  
  It is at this point that the religious leaders should ask themselves how close are they to the God they speak about about. . Are they hearing his voice? And what exactly are they hearing. HOW BIG IS THEIR GOD.
