  Thanks to Apostle Commey for this timely reminder. It is indeed a life of a "faith" in Christ that works which makes us zealous and repentant as the the Lord knocks at the door of our hearts with his Word (Rev 3:16-21).

  I will add a little to what he has already noted in this homily.
  My comments will use "end times" and "last days/latter days" synonymously as the Hebrew and Greek do.
  
  Eschatological (eschatos Gk for last) events before the second coming of Christ will be so fraught with deceptions that Christ warned his disciples several times (in the dual prophecy of the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD in, and the end of the world in Matthew 24) that:
  
  "...Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many" (Matthew 24:4-5).
  
  Question: who is behind all these deceptions?
  
  Answer: "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him" (Revelation 12:9).
  
  Question: Why will Satan step up his deceptions to deceive the whole world in the last days?
  
  Answer: "Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time" (Revelation 12:12).
  
  Question: The devil will deceive the whole world? This is frightening! How will he do that?
  
  Answer: "And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world" (Revelation 13:8).
  
  Note: Many are the deceptive ways the enemy is using to attack the church. Here are some of them: worshiping on Sunday when a future national Sunday Law is passed, and punishing violators with restrictions to buy and sell (Rev 13:17), superficial knowledge of the scriptures, extra-bibilical beliefs about the state of the dead like the immortality of the soul, a Christless faith, sinful habits, false prophecies, complacency, etc.
  
  In Matthew 24:24 we learn that: "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."
  
  Who are "the very elect"?
  "Behold, I have told you before" (Matthew 24:25). Jesus had forewarned us about deceptions and we are to be on our guard against deceptions of the enememy by being diligent student of the Bible.
  
  Let's not forget that Satan tempted Eve on the revealed knowledge she already knew about her Creator, creation and the consequence of violating the commandment regarding
  the Tree of Kowledge and Evil.
  
  "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God (including the Saturday-Sabbath Commandment), and the faith of Jesus" (Revelation 14:12).
  
  The christian needs the "eyesalve" of Christ to discern truth and error.
  "I counsel thee to ...anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see."

  Anoint thine eyes - Pray for, that ye may receive, the enlightening influences of my Spirit, that ye may be convinced of your true state, and see where your help lies.
