Very nice article breaking down African traditional religion and showing similarities with European religion. But there is a small difference. Some of the practises of African religion needed to be destroyed like human sacrifice. Other than that most of the traditions are similar. In the pure orthodox churches and Catholic church, there are also rituals like eating the body of Christ and drinking of his blood (symbolic sipping wine and eating wafer). There is also Harvest days where produce of the land is brought to be blessed at the altar. In the Evangelical churches, there is "speaking in tongues"... I mean you can find similarities between the white man's religion and the religion of our ancestors so I dont believe everything our ancestors believed in should be abolished. A little modernisation is ok but we should keep the positive ideals intact!

The apparent similarities exist because Satan imitates the things of God. That is why you have to know Christ and his WORD. This is a Truth, and I am challenging you in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God to make time in your Life and devote your life to Biblical teachings, because it is Life and death issue.

African Traditional Beliefs is the ONLY way ALL Blacks worldwide will ever reconnect with their direct families,clans and ethnic groups in Africa. There is no other way. Organized 'religions' are a con-game ran on people of color across this planet. Ironically, it was done to colorless people first by their own then once proven effective it was done on people of color across the planet.
Most Blacks do not even know that some Blacks escaped chains on the slave ships during the Middle Passage and jumped overboard into the sea. They did not die because their families were so deep into the African Tradition that the Mamiwata retrieved them in the ocean before death. Bringing them back to their families in West Africa, after a period. The extended family knew such and prepared for their return.===

Thank God for the speech on the loss of African traditional religion given by Rev. Peter Adotey-Addo. Indeed, it is true that that Africans knew the Almighty God. Yes, it is not only Africans who knew God before the introduction of Christianity in Africa and other parts of the world. The great Apostle Paul stated in the book of Romans chapter one ( Rom. 1:19-25) that God did manifest Himself to the entire world including Africans in the things that He made, yet the people of the world did glorify Him as God, but exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. I am of the view that Africans like the Canaanites, the Jebusites and rest of the nations that God of Abraham drove from their lands and gave them to the Jews, also knew God Almighty but did not give Him glory and decided to worship idols which African traditional religion is propounding as ancestral religion of Africans. My argument is that if the Almighty God is the same Supreme Being who gave our ancestors the right to worship idols, and appointed priests for them to be mediators between the people and the Almighty God, why should the same Almighty God now says, we should not have any other god beside Him? (Exodus 20:1-5) History reveals that Africans like any other nation in the world did worship idols and not the Almighty God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It is also true that Africans and other nations of the did have and have some rich, rich cultures that we were practicing which were not against the Holiness of God, in the course of time these rich cultures were corrupted and metamorphosed into religious rituals which, some of them demanded human sacrifices which of course, did not please the Most High God. As Christians, we can encourage and promote some of our good cultures to be practiced, but we shouldn't attempt to encourage idol worshiping because it is not a true worship of God.

Before the foundation of the earth God foresaw sin, the transgression of his law (1John 3:4), by Adam and Eve, and made himself the only acceptable plan of salvation, the merits of the Lamb of God "slain from the foundation of the earth" (Rev 13:8b, John 1:29). This plan also known as the New Covenant, or grace, was ratified at Calvary by Jesus Christ, a Jew.

In John 4:22, Jesus said to the Samaritan woman at the well: "You worship you know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews... ."

The enemy of man has interposed himself between man and God, and has been promoting polytheism in Africa, but God is saying to us:
"Look unto me, and be you saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else" (Isaiah 45:22).

"All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief comes not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep. But he that is a hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees: and the wolf catches them, and scatters the sheep. God paid the most costly sacrifice his creation has ever witnessed when he offered his son as the Lamb of God for the sins of the world because he wanted the world to accept his plan of salvation (John 3:16).

"And the times of this ignorance God overlooked; but now commands all men everywhere to repent: Because he has appointed a day, in which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he has ordained; and of this he has given assurance unto all men, in that he has raised him from the dead" (Acts 17:30-31).

Visit any shrine in Ghana, go through the initiation rituals, shower them with all gifts on the earth and later decide that you want to quit. There you will see whether you are serving God or demons! If you are lucky to taste the grace of God in Jesus name then your life will be spared. African traditional religion as presented by the Reverend looks good but I tell you from my personal experience with the practioners the priests are wicked, unforgiving, notorious, greedy, murderers, adulterous, etc. The practice is bogus and should not be encouraged in any civilized society.

And to say that there is no difference between the "sacred" and the secular", that, that is the way forward!

ITEM: As for us, we are only interested in critical thinking as a way to improve the quality of life for Ghanaians, the youth in particular!

Jesus Christ came to reveal God to us. Mankind has been spiritually blinded since the fall of Adam.

All attempt on the part of man to be connected to the creator provoked the proliferation of many religions, whether you want to call them African/A?ian/European etc. traditional religion or not.

The true God made a covenant with the Jewish people who were entrusted with the ORACLES of God, with regard to who he was and is. God raised up Prophets among them who by inspiration wrote about the coming of Christ and his purpose on earth; to atone for our sins so that humanity could be reconciled to God, one again.

Jesus, in his own words said that the world do not know God, and that he has come in the name of God that HE may be known by whoever wants to HIM.

Since we were born with Adamic nature
and spiritually blind, mankind has been in spiritual darkness, being deceived by Satan/demons who are behind all kinds of idols/shrines, throughout the whole world, and deceiving many.

Satan is an imitator of the things of God. Satan counterfeits and deceives people into thinking that they are doing the right thing. Idols and shrines are all demonic. Rituals, sacrifices, libations are all are abhorrent in the eyes of God.

Look, everything is the Bible, except you do not want to know. Satan keeps people in the bondage of unconcern and the thinking that there is enough time to make amends with the true God, but the days are evil.

You are to make sure that you are Baptized(by immersion AFTER you have believed and received Christ as your Lord and Personal Saviour) as well as your family members, in a living Church.

It is important to understand Christianity is not an European religion. Many these days would tell you they are atheist. There is no power in the Churches, with a lot of compromises.

May you avail yourself to be used of the Lord to bring Light in the Church.

The existence of God is without excuse, it is obvious from his creation.This is what we call the natural knowledge of God. However, Salvation knowledge of God is through Christ Jesus, the Son of God.

You are to find out these things (Truth) yourself, no one can do it for you. You are to be sure of all things.

You are to commit yourself, with discipline, in making sure that you are on track, else you can even be a professor and not even see anything wrong with visiting the shrine/idol.

Salvation is in Christ.

Churches should make alter calls for people to come forward to give their lifes to Christ. Heaven and Earth bears witness to the event.

Most Churches have Libraries of a sort. The books are for borrowing. Even if the books are not visible in the Church premises, you can always ask.

Develop the habit of reading many of such books, prayerfully. You need to be very open and humble in the understanding of things.

In every book, there is something to learn. Some of the books has issues pertaining to doctrines, others give a background of each of the books of the Bible (Eg. Book with title, "All Scripture is Inspired of God" from WS)

Believers in a particular denomination may not read materials from other denominations. However, in your investigations, take time to compare things, always checking out facts from the Bible, even other Bible versions(Other versions may throw light on issues, because of phrasing of the words, but they all basically inherently the same)

God has ways of reaching out to everyone, as long as we desire to know him. Your KNOWLEDGE in the Scriptures is very paramount in building up your Faith.

In fact some of the books are devoted to individual's life experiences and personal devotion to the Lord, as well as their Ministry, if any. There may be many testimonies to read.

The internet has a lot resources for personal study.

In anycase, you are to develop a disciplined lifestyle and seriousness with the Lord.

Always look out for the opportunity of being a blessing to someone in your manners, responses, utterances with the aim of pleasing the Lord.

Let love, respect and concern be an integral part of sharing the Salvation message of God with others.

Finally, build yourself up spiritually in the Lord, for you no not when you will be needed of the Lord to save a particular situation.

Caution: Avoid making unpleasant comments about people in the name of political parties. Infact do not be so much consumed by these things, for they are all distractions.
