It is quite clear from this report that the doctor in charge had absolutely no clue about bloodless surgery- the future. He also made false statements which exposed his ignorance of basic scientific facts. When a person suffers a blood loss the most immediate threat to life is not shortage of blood, as such, but an inadequate volume of fluid. This can be achieved using a simple saline solution, it is cheap and can be prepared by any doctor worth his certificate.
In normal adult humans, most blood cells are produced in the bone marrow. Every day, for every pound of body weight, your bone marrow produces one billion [2.5 billion] red cells, 400 million [1 billion] granulocytes (white cells), and one billion [2.5 billion] platelets. The saline solution is therefore a favourable liquid solution for the body to produce the needed amount of blood cells. You don’t need blood to achieve this.
Transfusing stored blood has NO immediate advantages concerning the transfer of oxygen, because the haemoglobin of stored, citrated red cells is not fully available for the transfer of oxygen to the tissues for some 24 hours after transfusion. This woman could have been saved easily. When the JWs opted for bloodless surgery they were choosing the best medical procedure. It has been scientifically proven that the advantages far outweigh blood transfusion. Over 160 hospitals are practicing in the US today. www.noblood.org . The question we should all ask ourselves is – if bloodless surgery was that dangerous why did Korle-Bu Hospital create a department for it in 2004?

If the shortage of red blood cell is very severe there may not be time for fersolate, folic acid, erythropoietin etc to help body to make ENOUGH blood cells. Again, saline solution, normal saline etc does not contain blood cells! I was clueless like you too once. Read the book suggested by Henry. Read also what Blood is ( not the same as saline), read how blood cells- red, white blood cells, platelets etc are made by the body if you want to be scientific. I recommend google to you. Good luck

Read about the functions of red blood cells, causes of anemia ( and know it is not only caused by blood loss), causes of heart failure, saline solution or more scientific name - normal saline. You like to google right? Good luck

Lack of definite interpretation has made the bible worse off. However, it is sad that many humans have allowed others to put fear in them to the extent that these so called "teachers" deceive them and lead them to destruction. Read Lev. ch17:10-14 and you will appreciate the value of blood to Jehovah God. Then read Gen:ch 9:4 and add Acts 15:25-29.

If you are finding it difficult to follow the bible, please do no blame Jehovah's Witnesses who are read and apply the Bible in their daily lives.

Jehovah God will settle this matter sooner than later.

After many years, they ruled that they were wrong in their assertion. Their argument was that transplanting was tantamount to "eating" the organs and those organs are transplanted with blood on them. Do you see how unreasonable these arguments are? Salvation is a free gift from God by faith in Jesus Christ and not by works of man.

The fact that you may not drink the blood of animals does not mean that's true for all mankind. Animal/goat/cow/chicken/"b33la" blood are highly used and drank in various cultures around the world including Ghana and other places in Africa, say the Masai in Kenya.

In the Acts 15 you refer to, do you know that the Gentiles who believed and were saved were saved by GOD HIMSELF without HIM requiring them to follow any Jewish rules and regulations? It was James and the apostles who wanted to burden these already saved Gentiles with the Old Testament laws. The Bible says that Christ was born under the law to redeem those under the law. In fact, in Galatians 3, Paul goes to a great length at explaining to the Galatians that they should resist being burdened with the regulations in the law. That said, in Acts 15, when James stuck the compromising rules for the Gentiles he stated that "it seemed good to the Holy Spirit that the Gentiles follow only these things... and the list included abstain from blood. In the Old Testament, abstaining from blood had to do with not eating meat with the blood of the animal still in it. How can you jump and conclude that eating meat with animals in it has any relationship with Blood Transfusion? Please THINK! THINK! THINK! And allow Jesus Christ to free you from the burdens of the WATCHTOWER!!!!!!!!!

Medical Science has evolved...the military are even adopting bloodless surgical procedures.Because of religious groups like JWs advancement in medicine are being made to challenge the status quo despite ones religious affiliation is what brings about innovation. Let's grow up and stop following the same procedures. Stop administering blood at every opportunity you get and find viable alternatives...no wonder there is shortage of blood at the blood banks all the time. The men who made you believe the Jah prohibits blood transfusion does not know the Jah, they talk about except glorification of what they think is right, supported with biblical contexts. Even the devil can use the bible to deceive. No wonder millions of JWs has made unknowingly to them the organisation or society 'a god' which must be served and obeyed at all costs. Jehovah, the God they seem to adore is watching because to me, Jah is placed second to the society. If you pause, pray, reason and do your research well, Jah will open your heart to know who He really is. I have been there bro. I believed and trusted what I read and learnt but when I came across the Jehovah I have thought to know, He became first and the organisation second. This didn't go well upon reasoning to those following the society blindly. I am a health professional and knows more about transfusion. It is true, there is no guarantee that whoever receives blood can live forever or be saved instantly. What Jah created is life, not meant to be destroyed. Whatever you may have thought, I would not advise that woman to refuse the transfusion for religious reasons. Her refusal does not give her outright salvation for doing obeisance to religious belief which is thought God approves. PRAY, PRAY, AND PRAY FOR JEHOVAH TO GUIDE YOU TO REASON WHITHOUT RELYING SOLELY OF WHAT MEN BELIEFS TO BE EXPECTED FROM GOD. GOD IS LOVE. procedure for JW members and non members alike for more than a decade now,like the "Micro Surgery".
I knew of a Child in W'ba,Ghana. whom had blood transfusion and never became herself as before.This Child was bothered by Skin
rashes and other ailments all the time,and looked weak after the transfusion.
The JW have developed Certified high potency and quick blood replenishment Capsule or tablet,as far back as I could remember(I stand corrected).
I'm not a JW,but I would not accept a blood transfusion.Because machines to test the blood may not be 100percent accurate.
There are reports of some people who tested positive after blood transfusion back then.

Millions of people in the world has contracted serious diseases like Aids,hepatite B, hepatite C, and other illness in particular in Africa. we need proper health education system in terms of prevention, and proper and suitable diet to limit to avoid avoidable anaemic situations. Nevertheless, in the situation mention in this article, there was no need for surgery. Nothing shows that the lady could have been saved by the blood transfusion. In developped countries, les than 5% of the medical personel will accept blood transfusion. Yes, the evidence is clear. no scientific screening could tell you all the diseases in a blood before giving to you 100%. May the lady rest in peace. The Doctors at the Hospital did well respecting the religious rights of the lady. We are living in the 21st century, we should search for truth and scientific evidences.

The bible has and is killing us as a people....we've been praying harder and harder and more than ever as a people since the bible was introduced to us and our situation has worsened collectively ever since.

Isn't it time we stop for a moment, as a people, open our eyes from our praying positions and start thinking for ourselves for once?

We believe (not know) all that is written (by men like u and me) hook line and sinker and have thrown any idea of thinking for a moment....we are banking our hopes on the myth that there will be some heaven after we die and therefore trash and destroy what we have here on earth....just look at our country, Ghana, and the rest of the continent as it stands....

Does anyone think a God in his/her right mind will give you a better place after you die, when you couldn't even fathom the level of recklessness you inflicted on what was entrusted to us on earth? Even an animal would not do that let alone a God.

The bible says this, the bible did not say that etc etc.....Again the bible were written by men/women just like u and me...and we should get this through our thick skulls once and for all that it is not the word of God.....it all came from the minds of men/women.

Ghana and Africa as a whole should wake up from our religious slumber if we are to make any progress in life. What we have failed to understand is that we don't need religion to be good people. We can be good by ourselves to ourselves and our goodness is good contrary to what the bible has made us to believe. Our goodness or righteousness is NOT like a filthy rag....let's do all the good we can without seeking any rewards for it, like going to heaven after we die, let's do it becos that's who we are as a people.

We've been made to believe that the earth was made some 6000 years ago, yet irrefutable evidence exist today of mankind being here over 200,000 years ago....again we have to understand that this world is not going anywhere for the next billions of years, so we better take good care of it for posterity...your and mine great great great great grand children.

Even if this interpretation that accepting blood transfusion constitutes eating blood, Paul taught in Rom. 14;17, that the kigdom of God is not about eating and drinking.

I cor. 8:8 says, "food will not commend us to God".

So eating or not eating of any type of food will not commend anyone to God.

The Jehovah's Witnesses have allowed a few men in New York to dictate to them what they should do and not do - rules and regulations that have no Biblical backing at all. The blood transfusion issue is one such rule that is a completely WARPED and WRONG interpretation of scripture. God saved the Gentiles and poured His Spirit in them before a meeting was held by the apostles to determine which of the Jewish Old Testament laws they should follow. Remember that God did not demand that these people follow any rules before He saved them and gave them eternal life and poured His Holy Spirit on them. They only had to believe in Jesus Christ!!! Now, even if we consider what James imposed on the Gentiles, he just said they should not drink blood. Blood transfusion IS NOT the same as drinking blood. What was being referred to is a practice in the Old Testament whereby people ate meat with the blood in it. This had nothing nto do with BLOOD TRANSFUSION! Absolutely nothing! In fact, the Jehovah's Witnesses even went as far as saying that Christians were instructed not to receive transplants - Kidney and Liver transplants etc. For years, many JWs believed what their leaders told them, refused transplants, and died. It took many years before the same JW leaders came back and retracted their ruling and alowed organ transplants! Very SAD, very very SAD. And I have a brother, and sisters in this FALSE and deceptive religion. I continue to pray that the Lord Jesus Christ will have mercy on them and open their eyes to this deception.

How on earth will a person believe that there's a place call heaven where sugar and honey, food and water, room and bed, beautiful ladies and nice guys to date and much more to enjoy after death? why then do we all run away from death?? i think this was an imaginary promisory story by some ancient leaders to motivate their followers to behave well and do good.
we don't need religion to do good. doing good is a universal requirement by all nations/govts/individuals. men and women are working hard under snowing weather to solve their problems whilst we spend our times under perfect weather crying on the floor for our god to come and solve ours for us.we hadly try doing something and even when we start something and meet little resistance instead of thinking and replanning we run back to pray then after we have failed we then go to those who don't pray like the chinese, japanese, germans etc begging for help. i wish our govt could have a national ideology law that would override any religious nonsense so that people like this poor girl don't die because of pastors who eat, housed and ride in physical cars but think and work spirits!

In China, Japan etc, they have their 'Traditional Philosophies of Life', which, of course, they would not call Religions but they are! Have you been following the news about the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the furore he has created when he visited the Yasukuni Shrine of the 'War Heroes'? Since you seem to be in China, ask about Taoism and the various forms of Buddhism there. Why is that many Africans always want to put down our own way of doing things and still laud those of the 'White Man' ?

The basic values are based on Christian Principles. In the U.K. for example, the Queen is still the Head of the Anglican Church. In the United States of all places, the Dollar has the symbol saying 'In God We Trust' and during the inauguration of every president, Christian Prayers are recited at the function! In Germany, Angela Merkel's Ruling is called 'Christian Democrats'! These are not mere labels. Brazil , one of the fastest growing economies in the world, is staunchly Catholic. India, the second largest Democracy with a vibrant Economy is majority Hindu.My central argument therefore still stands.

Russell himself admitted that he was not educated and allegations of improper financial dealings were regularly being made against him by other members of his "sect".
They have regularly predicted the end of the world and have always been wrong. The last time was in 1975 when thousands of Witness followed the teaching of the Elders and sold their worldly goods and gave the money to the organisation as the "end of days was nigh" only to be left impoverished and ruined when it never happened. Many then left the sect and never returned.
They no longer predict the end of the world, not because they do not believe it is going to happen but because they would be left open to criminal allegations of fraud and deception by the State acting on behalf of anybody who disposed of their worldly goods, gave the proceeds to the organisation, in the belief that the Elders were speaking truthfully and was then left penniless when the end did not come.

Maths-Statistics: Bring out the statistics on number of people who accepted blood tranfusion and lived, those who accepted it and died, and those who did not accept it and died and see the difference. Many morons here can't even do simple maths in the first place let alone statistics. My family is not religious but we are intellectuals and know the the consequences of that blood transfusion. My Dad refused the request from the Doctors in Achimota hospital to give my younger brother blood 25 years ago. He didn't die. He lives and is always on top of his class wherever he schools. For 40 years a doctor who treat cancer - Dr Burzynski - has been put on clinical trials, no approval yet. He gets sued by the FDA always. The FDA goes to his patients to convince them to sue Burzynski's ass so they can give those patients cash rewards. Other treatments too exist but no doctor is supposed to say they cure cancer else they get thrown behind bars. All these are done with the aim of suppressing treatment to get Pharmaceutical companies running their businesses for profits. Keep people alive, don't treat them, so you can drain cash from their asses. And Ghana's FDA is following the same process. I am glad a patient was advised to go herbal and stay away from drugs(poison) when their sickness was diagnosed at a hospital. My family uses medical technology for diagnoses/checkup. And if we have any illness which is rarely the case, we jump on herbal remedies. Fuck conventional medicine.

It is sad to hear the news of the death of this lady. She exercised her right of self-determination and her biblical conviction.
For most patients that refuse blood transfusion, quick alternatives to blood transfusion must be offered. There are various modalities depending on the presenting clinical challenge (disease), namely:
1. hyper-oxygenation (giving extra oxygen)
2. Injection of blood stimulating drug, erythropoietin (EPO)
3. Giving intravenous fluids to maintain the blood circulation volume.
4. Arresting the cause of "the lost of blood"
5. Giving blood forming vitamins and folic acid - by injection or by oral (mouth) route.
The treating doctor must arrive at the cause of anemia quickly and start the appropriate alternatives to transfusion TIMELY.
The above are my experience as a hospital manager and a healthcare practitioner myself.

Miss CC has just delivered a baby and had a large tear in her cervix that was not picked early. She bleed a lot and became restless.
I was called by the father regarding the issue as the treating doctor was insisting on blood transfusion. She was taken to theatre when I arrived at the hospital and the source of bleeding was stopped in theatre. This took place in a district hospital. As the hospital gave an indication of lack of capacity to continue her care, the family arranged transfer to a higher hospital. In the meantime intravenous fluids and oxygen were given continuously.

The argument of blood transfusion continue in the larger hospital. But a discussion with the doctors and the family took place. She was then given EPO and blood forming vitamins throughout her stay in the hospital. Her HB at the time was 1.56g/dL.
In two weeks her HB improved to 7.3g/dL and she was discharged on oral blood forming drugs.

This was a case I was personally involved in. So alternatives to blood transfusion does work.

I wrote this piece as on this date of the current article we are informed Korle-Bu has run out of blood supply. What may happen to even a patient who accept blood transfusion but blood is not available for transfusion. The doctors will have to implement the alternative strategy to save even this patient. So coming to be conversant with alternatives to blood transfusion is very important for all healthcare workers.

Secondly, when they killed any animal, they should pour out the blood and cover it with soil before they can prepare that animal for eating.
There is no mention of not taking blood transfusion here. Please teach the Bible correctly and stop unnecessary deaths arising out of members of JEHOVAH WITNESS MOVEMENT refusing blood transfusions. Precious lives that would have proved beneficial to other people are just being wasted due to misinterpretation of the Scriptures.
