  Igwe too much of religion is dangerous, too much of secularism is even worse, we therefore need a balance between both. Secular societies arent perfect either, they have their own share of problems.

  You just wasted a great deal of your time stressing on nothing. All these verses you quoted were revealed in a particular context. We are talking about verses which command 5th to 6th century Muslims, who were attacked because of their faith, to defend themselves by fighting back till the enemy stops fighting them. Those verses are not to be applied in everyday religious activities but only during the attack by enemies in a warfare.
  
  Those who understand tafsir and the exigencies of the times of quranic revelation know that those verses were revealed in context, and under no circumstance should any person or group of people use them as the basis to attack innocent people without any provocation. That is why about 80 per cent of muslims do not engage in those acts of terror.
  
  Consider the following words of Jesus;
  
  “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword" Mathew 10:34
  
  For I have come to turn "'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law--Mathew 10:35
  
  He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." Luke 22:36
  
  "But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them--bring them here and kill them in front of me" Luke 19: 27

They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the LORD's people. Now kill all the boys and all the women who have slept with a man. Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves".
  
  Numbers 31:7 to 18
  
  " As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you." Deutronomy 20:10 to 14
  
  And thousands of other verses.
  
  These were the moral basis of the crusaders who waged wars and enslaved others.
  
  So scriptures can be interpreted in a way to create mischief.
