This admission by the Rev. somehow redeems the Scottish People from the horrible, racist disdain they showed our Ghanaian entourage, headed by our President.
The Rev. has provided a flash of honesty and intelligence that was lacking in the Scottish Parliament at that event of humiliating our President.
I have earlier commented on the issue and expressed my utter indignation of what clearly was unacceptable insultingly patronizing amoral sermon to Ghanaians by the Scottish Parliamentarians.
Just as the Rev. cited the Chinese for comparison and the related silence of the same MPs who chastised us to the whole World, I cited and would reiterate the hypocrisy of the MPs who live fat on the relationship of their country with countries with far worse records on Human Rights, especially, LBGT rights than Ghana and would not dare not raise a finger at those countries.
I cited, for instance, the Saudi Arabia and her sister Arab Nations who supply the Europeans with Oil. Fewer countries flaunt the rights of LBGT and other Citizens than these Oil rich Arab Nations. Yet, hardly do we hear the arrogant MPs pontificating against them, because they fear the Oil will not flow in their pipes the next day, if they ever took the Arab Nations to task on such issues.
And it is more because Ghanaians are Black Africans that the MPs felt emboldened to humiliate us. Surely, as the Rev. said, racism was part of it. And the MPs must bury their heads in shame!
We in Ghana, do not need the Scottish or any European Nation to educate us on Morals. We might have been naive or even ignorant in the past to assume these folks in Europe were the moral mouthpieces of God Most High, and the best Christians there could ever be, when they introduced Christianity to us.
But lo and behold, we have now come to know with all certainty that they mostly conveniently invoke the laudable Christian principles only when they favor their actions at any particular time, and ignore the same principles for the same reasons, even if such non-application of the principles hurt others, like us.
It brings it all back to me, the cynics' saying that these Europeans sought to penetrate our part of the World with the Missionaries as their advance party, brandishing the Bible in one hand to mellow us down, and with guns and Whiskey in the other to coerce us into relinquishing our wealth to them.
I hate to draw on this almost trite, old sentiment that Western Imperialism has done more harm to us than we would have been without it. Many that believe we might never have advanced in Civilization without it, I challenge them to prove to us why.
We were once on the path to greater Civilization in Ancient Ghana and elsewhere without the migration of the West to impose on us. We could have possibly gone beyond our current status by now, barring the invasion of the Almoravids.
Gee, I wonder how the Scottish looked like, and lived in those days-- maybe the men had all their bravery bleached out of them, and begun running around in skirts with the girls, so they would not be distinguished for the enemies' slaughter.
Maybe, just maybe, that is why they have become so much in love with homosexuality as to have their MPs take so much offense at our Government's tardiness in formally embracing that sexual lifestyle.
We mean no harm to anyone. We don't impose our lifestyle on anyone. And we would not allow anyone else to impose their lifestyle on us. Period. Any evolution of our lifestyle would be out of our own experiences. We may have to remind the Scottish that we long broke the chain of Colonial bondage with their Lords in Westminster. And we would not tolerate any vainglorious superiority complexes from them. Darn it!
