So those two things forms human being a living soul. When you SEPERATE THEM YOU DON'T HAVE A HUMAN BEING OR LIVING SOUL. The dust is not human being neither is the breath of life from God is a human being. So when you die the dust goes back to the ground and the breath of life goes back God who gave it and REMEMBER that BREATH OF LIFE IS NOT YOU. That spirit(Breath of life) is God's own not you. REMEMBER BEFORE GOD CREATED ADAM, HE WAS NOT LIVING IN HEAVEN. He is no where to be found. And God told Adam when you sin you will go back to the dust because out of it you were taken (Gen. 3:19, Gen. 2:16,17). The truth is there is no SOUL living anywhere when you die. The SOUL is you, YOU ARE A LEAVING SOUL.
