Adidas-Salomon, kit manufacturing giant, has once again tendered in a bid to kit Ghana’s national teams. This new decision comes after their initial sponsorship package to the Black Stars during the CAN 2002 was seriously criticized due to the poor quality and package consignment offered to Ghana.

The Ghana Football Association is yet to consider the bid by Adidas-Salomon as well as that of United States based kit manufacturers, El-Sporto.

Adidas-Salomon, won the bidding over El-Sporto to clothe the Black Stars during the 2002 African Cup of Nations hosted by Mali. But as the tournament proceeded, many Ghanaians criticized the FA and condemned the Adidas jerseys won by the team. Adidas-Salomon apologized to the FA after the tournament.

Among the problems associated with the Adidas kits were insufficient kits supplied as against what was contained in the memorandum of understanding. The designs on the jerseys, which were shown, to the Ghanaian media and populace was different from what the team wore during the competition.

Clearly, Adidas did not honour their part of the contract to the fullest.Meanwhile, El-Sporto is still keeping their bid for the national team open as they now try to seal a deal with the FA and the Ghana League Clubs Association-GHALCA to sponsor the premier league.

Negotiations between El-Sporto and the FA to sponsor the league are still on going. The FA is now heading to the table with the U.S kit manufacturers, EL-Sporto to discuss their package for the Black Stars.
