President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi has urged the senior national team, Black Stars, to ignore the tension between the GFA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports and rather focus on beating Rwanda in their final 2017 Nations Cup qualifier on Saturday September 3 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

There have been tensions between the GFA and the Sports Ministry with sector Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye saying there is no money to fly in foreign-based players for the game on Saturday. The players, therefore, funded their own trip to the country for the match.

Mr Nyantakyi, who was at the Accra Sports Stadium to watch the players train ahead of the game in a short interview with Class Sports, said: “I would like to appeal to you to focus on the preparations and let us put all the issues and problems that confront us aside and focus on this match. This is a very important match because per the coach’s programme, it is supposed to serve two purposes. One is to confirm our qualification into the African Cup of Nations and also the last competitive match before the World Cup [qualifying] matches.”

The Black Stars held their first training at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday August 30 with 13 players in camp with the rest set to arrive in the coming days.
