DR Congo coach Claude le Roy has quit over poor organisation just three days before his team's opening match at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Both Nyota TV and the official website of TP Mazembe, who provide many of the players in the squad for South Africa, reported Le Roy's decision to quit.

Le Roy, 64, who is in his second spell with DR Congo, resigned on Thursday night, handing a letter to the national football federation official in charge of the national team, Theo Binamungu.

The Frenchman, who resigned along with assistant Sebastian Migne, blamed poor management of the team for his decision, while uncertainty surrounds the issue of tournament bonuses.

The players are believed to support Le Roy's decision.

DR Congo begin their Nations Cup campaign on Sunday in Port Elizabeth against Ghana in the opening Group D match.
