Football legend Abedi Pele believes it is premature for his FC Nania to start comparing themselves to the big boys of Ghana football, why he remains unperturbed that Nania will not be among the 16 sides competing for the trophy when the Glo Ghana Premier League kicks off on Sunday.
Pele insists Nania are just happy to be where they are now even though they beat a host of top flights side on the way to the FA Cup title and underlined their superiority with victory over the league champions in the Super Cup match only last Sunday.
“I don’t think Nania need to be in the Premier League. We’ve worked hard for our modest achievements so far but we don’t compare ourselves to others, no way.
“There are Kotoko and all the great sides who have won many trophies and are streets ahead of us. We still have a long way to go, we are just glad to work harder,” Pele told us.
The founder, owner and bankroller of the sensational second tier side acknowledges that playing in the Premier League could have prepared his side very well for their maiden voyage into continental football next year. But Pele believes Nania will cope.
“It’s true, it could have helped us a lot. Its difficult going away and tough games that can make us tougher to deal with our Confederations’ Cup opponents.
“But remember there was no competition for us when we were playing the FA Cup. We stayed over a month after the semi finals before playing the final but we managed to work hard to win.
“We will just go with good planning, good preparation, good work, good players and work hard as we continue to learn,” Pele explained.
