Legendary Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan believes the decision by Andre Ayew to accept the captaincy of the Black Stars was wrong, insisting he wouldn’t accept the offer if he were the one.
According to Gyan, the numerous controversies that had surrounded the captaincy of the Black Stars should have kept the Swansea City star away.
Despite admitting it’s a singular decision of Andre Ayew, Gyan insists it would have been better if Andre had rejected the offer to captain the Black Stars to the just ended AFCON.
“Honestly no,” Gyan said when asked if he would accept the captain had he been Andre Ayew.
“Because there were a lot of controversy surrounding the captaincy,” he added.
Gyan however said he wouldn’t blame Andre Ayew for the decision to accept the armband but it would have been ‘wise’ for Ayew to have rejected the offer.
“I won’t blame him that much but I think he should have rejected the offer,” he said in Asempa FM.
“When you are being given something that is shrouded in a lot of trouble and controversy, it’ll only be wise that you don’t go for it,” he added.
Gyan was made the General Captain of the Black Stars while the armband was handed to Andre Ayew as the substantive captain of the team for the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
