Daniel Agyei will be looking to dethrone Adam Kwarasey to become Ghana’s safest pair of hands.
The 21-year-old Liberty Professionals goalkeeper has been rewarded with a Black Stars recall for the games against Sudan and Nigeria after leading the national U-23 team to a historic gold medal at the All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique.
However, Agyei, who has made four Black Stars appearances, aims not only to make up the numbers in camp but rather make the no.1 spot which until recently was the sole preserve of Richard Kingson his own.
“As a goalkeeper you always dream to aim high and as such with my performance in recent times I hope to make the Black Stars no.1 slot mine,” he exclusively told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“This is not the first time I have been called to the Black Stars and therefore it is not a panic work for Daniel Agyei.
“Looking at what Kwarasey did the last time has served as a motivation for me and therefore if given the opportunity I believe I can also rise to the challenge”
Agyei who is fast building his reputation as an expert penalty saver was also a member of the victorious Ghana U-20 team that clinched Africa’s first ever World Cup in Egypt 2009 – the team which has had at least four of it’s members promoted to the Black Stars.
