Former Birmingham City attacker Akwasi Asante has signed for non-league English side Solihull Moors, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.
The 22-year-old Dutch-born joined the sixth-tier side as a free agent after leaving Kidderminster FC.
Back in 2010, Asante was earmarked as one of the hottest young talents in English football. The Dutch-born striker burst onto the scene by smashing in five of Blues’s goals in a 6-0 rout against Spurs U18’s.
He was tipped by the then Blues boss Alex Mcleish as ‘A massive talent’ and ‘One for the future’. Asante found himself on the periphery of a Premier League side and soon signed his first professional contract, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2013/14 season.
But fell down the pecking order following his loss of form and failure to compete for space. Injuries then took their toll on Asante and his fledgling career.
He managed to make just one appearance for Blues as an 88th-minute substitute in the 3-0 Europa League qualifying win against CD Nacional.
In an attempt to turn his youth team potential into first team quality, he had various loan spells at Northampton and Shrewsbury.
He was at Birmingham City together with highly-rated starlet Koby Arthur who has recently signed a contract extension for the Blues.
